What is Smass?
The super-short version: it’s an end-of-year holiday I made up when I was in high school and have celebrated ever year since. What does it mean? Search me. I think my old friend Mallary and I made it up in 2000 as some kind of silly way of saying “Some more X-mass.”

How is Smass?
Locally: by dancing, playing games, telling jokes, and making art. Long-distance (and anyone in town who wants to!): we send each other something fun in the mail. Typically, I send a flat card that I make using my photography, stamp-carving, and/or papercraft skills. You can send me whatever the heck you want.
Proper greetings are “Sunny Smass!” and “Have a sunny Smass!” lol j/k you can say whatever you want.
Why is Smass?
Like most humans, I love rituals and celebrations. The last bit of the year and the start of a fresh one is the best time to take stock, count blessings, plan ahead &etc., but mostly I love flooding my life with sunshine at this time through art and real connection because it’s freaking dark out there (in lots of ways). The mail system isn’t dead yet.
When is Smass?
From early December until the Epiphany (Jan 6th/The 12th day of Christmas)
